Recap:
The movie starts with He Qiao Qiao (by Bai Bai He) having dumpling for lunch which looks tasteless and a mess, then everyday the bento differ. And we see someone is changing Qiao Qiao bento lid with his own bento, Li Xing (Eddie Peng). They then become high school sweethearts, they graduate from universities and Qiao Qiao initiate breakup, since she's moving to Shanghai since and not to give up their own dream like, if he can be come great chef so she can also be great designer, and if Li Xing can affor to buy her Lan Yu wedding dress then she will squeeze to fit the dress. Li Xing then say okay let's breakup, but asking for how long.. Qiao Qiao say nothing like breakup for how long but then settle with 5yrs, and if by the end of 5yrs both side still have no partner they they will both marry and they stamp the agreement which is being safekeeping in one coffee house. One day, Qiao Qiao pass by Lan Yu studio, took a polaroid of a wedding dress.5 years later, Qiao Qiao say bye" to all her drugs.. Hemm.. Whenever Qiao Qiao went to a restaurant she never fail to complain every single thing about how bad the restaurant can be to her dear friend, Mao Mao (Jiang Jin Fu). Both Qiao Qiao and Mao Mao are watching TV about making sashimi, and Mao Mao reminds her 5yrs is almost up and say that probably Li Xing had move on. Qiao Qiao say no way he can forget her, and true next she receive a text msg from Li Xing asking if she's available since he wants to talk, she's all happy thinking that they might end up together again. They finally make a phone call that night, and Li Xing break a news that he's getting married in half a month and told Qiao Qiao to stop by Taiwan to attend his wedding. Li Xing then ask if she had a boyfriend, and Qiao Qiao told Li Xing that she did.
Qiao Qiao then stop by Taiwan half a month earlier from the wedding, to prepare for her exhibition as well. Qiao Qiao stop by a hotel restaurant and order a menu which is not on the menu list. Finally they waiter went to the kitchen, Li Xing see the order smile and offer to make the soup himself. Soup is being serve, Li Xing come out dress up in 2piece suit. They sit and suddenly Li Xing fiancé, Zhou Rei (Pace Wu) show up. Zhou Rei say she's felling bad for disturbing them, but it's Li Xing who insist to go and accompany her trying wedding dress. Qiao Qiao went all pale, and decide to start drinking her soup but comments that it's only yield 50% since the main ingredients used is too old. Li Xing say well everyone also turns old. Li Xing then told Qiao Qiao to come together with them to the boutique, who drag their ex to wedding shop?
They end up in the Lan Yu studio, Li Xing pick up a wedding drew for Zhou Rei which I think it's the one that Qiao Qiao took a picture of before. Qiao Qiao offer to help Zhou Rei, and Zhou Rei thank's Qiao Qiao for giving up Li Xing that year or she will never be able to find a partner as good as Li Xing. Zhou Rei comments that Li Xing is just the perfect guy, he's rich he got a house a car, he's tall and handsome, and admit that though he might be nothing today she will still love him the same way.
Zhou Rei hand in hand with Li Xing, Qiao Qiao comments non-stop on how the outfit did not suit them.. HAHAHA!! After her comments, Zhou Rei and Li Xing decide to take in her comments and change it accordingly.
It's just Li Xing and Qiao Qiao on the car, Qiao Qiao ask because Zhou Rei is very hard to resist with all her good factors that's why he brought her to Lan Yu studio. Li Xing say he guess correctly that it's the reason that make her mad, and he say that not because she wants it other can't have it and now he can afford Lan Yu wedding dress he's buying but to bad it's for other girl to wear. Owww he's rubbing salt in her wounds.
Li Xing then brings Qiao Qiao to his newlywed apartment and told her to stay there during her visit for free, it's very luxurious and everything. Li Xing giver her a tour, a super king bed, a luxury toilet, and kitchen, but forbid Qiao Qiao to use them. Instead Li Xing told Qiao Qiao to sleep on the floor or the sofa, use the guest toilet and provide her frozen food just for her to pop up in the oven like she used to. Jerkk!!
But as for Qiao Qiao personality she did not care, she jump on the newlywed bed (it's sort of bad luck if it's being used before the wedding except for a male kid), basically she mess the whole apartment. She dig down all the food, while calling Mao Mao. Mao Mao told her to stop eating and to prep herself up if she did not want to loose in the game. Qiao Qiao bath her self on the forbidden toilet, did yoga before falling to the couch to her deep sleep.
The next morning, they meet up but Zhou Rei tag along, they went to Li Xing parents house. Qiao Qiao hands over the wine and bird nest over, but Zhou Rei say it's not something the parents can consumer and offer something better. Qiao Qiao is annoyed, when Li Xing Mom praise Zhou Rei.. Seriously? Qiao Qiao then whisper for Li Xing to come over tonight.
Qiao Qiao in the bathroom, calling Mao Mao asking for advise but hang-up by Mao Mao when he see his dream bag almost being snatch up by another guy. Qiao Qiao start to gulp down the alcohol, she went out and start to kiss Li Xing but since Li Xing is trying not to they end up like doing waltz. They fall into certain position, Li Xing approaching down to kiss but don't know why Li IXng throw her down to the couch and asking if it's the gift she's talking about. Qiao Qiao joke around, and hand over the gift. Li Xing left the apartment with the gift, and Qiao Qiao curse herself on missing out on such a great opportunity.
Next, we see Li Xing in some sort of cooking contest where there are 4contestant to fight over 3 star Michelin. There's 4 stages to it, sour, spicy, bitter, and sweet. Li Xing won the first sour category, one of the judge comments that the food match the plates. Hemm I wonder if it's the plate which Qiao Qiao give him.. Qiao Qiao see the competition from the TV and decide to take a photo with Li Xing on the TV. Qiao Qiao went over to the show backstage, only to see Li Xing with Zhou Rei. Qiao Qiao gulp down champagne with her sorrow. All drunk walking by herself, Qiao Qiao call Mao Mao who's working out, mid call Li Xing call Qiao Qiao say that he arrange a meet up with their old friends over dinner and told her to bring her boyfriend so she can introduce him. Qiao Qiao suddenly become sober, and told Mao Mao to get ticket to Taiwan for tomorrow, and told him not to forget that he's a golfer and he's been after her for a long long time.
Mao Mao and Qiao Qiao walk in hand in hand, seeing the rest playing twister Mao Mao offer to join. End up only Mao Mao and Li Xing on the twister mat, being so competitive with each other, I can smell someone burning with jealousy. Mao Mao mix up his lines during them game that always put him on the edge. Over dinner, the friend keep on saying that those years it's Qiao Qiao who's always after Li Xing and etc... Then the attendant say that the restaurant is giving out freebies if a couple can kiss for 60secs. Qiao Qiao offer to do it with Mao Mao, but before she can Li Xing is kissing Zhou Rei passionately. Hemmm... Li Xing offer to drive Mao-Qiao couple home, but Qiao Qiao decline it.
Mao Mao hand over consignment form for her to sign, Mao Mao ask Qiao Qiao if she would like to cancel the exhibition. Little did we know, Qiao Qiao wanted to hold the exhibition in order just to reunites with Li Xing again. Feeling down, Qiao Qiao decide to return to Shanghai, Li Xing feeling devastated he ask to dine together. They went back to the alley they used to play, Qiao Qiao say so many things has change, but Li Xing say something will not always change. The two end up in the restaurant where they breakup. We then get a flashback of 5yrs before, Li Xing keel down and propose to Qiao Qiao with a simple band. Qiao Qiao told him to stop being childish and she's someone who's looking for someone with stable job, own a house, and complain what kind of ring that did not have any diamond on it, and then back to where she initiate a break up.
The shop owner took the agreement out, Qiao Qiao shred it to pieces and say that it's invalid anymore since the male side has break the agreement, and Li Xing counter attack by saying that it's the women side who gave up ahead, and question if all these year she ever comeback to the restaurant like he did whenever he misses her. The shop owner ask if there's some misunderstanding, Li Xing then offer the first copy of the wedding invitation, Qiao Qiao say he's very cruel and he won't understand the pain when recalls missing someone since he's getting married and leave the place, before Li Xing offer the invitation again. Qiao Qiao decline, and Li Xing offer it to the shop owner. The shop owner smile and put down the invitation card in front of Qiao Qiao and told her to see it. heeemm I see where this is going..
Li Xing "5yrs already, I've always waited for you all these 5yrs. Soon the agreement will mature, you don't even have a bit of respond, how can I not panic? But I also did not want to use the agreement to force you, so I think of fake weeding to see your feelings toward me. Zhou Rei indeed is my boss daughter but she learn acting so act not bad right? And the rest of the people I bribe them with a sum of money. Will You have come home if I didn't do it? (QQ: I hear you getting married I come back) Right, though you comeback but after such a long time has passed by I still have to make sure your feelings towards me. (QQ: Then why you kiss her?) Or you want me to see you kissing other guy?*after word fight* I still want to look for a wife okay. (QQ: don't talk back), okay sorry let's don't fight anymore, not happy? Not happy! Smile"
Qiao Qiao say "no brain/clue", and walk out. This time Li Xing go after her, saying "5yrs ago you leave this place, I did not go after you, this time I definitely will not let you go." Li Xing then pull fed for a kiss, they playground then kiss till in front of the apartment. Li Xing then told Qiao Qiao to marry him, Qiao Qiao say give her two days to think coz he's the one who's making her angry. Qiao Qiao shout happily inside the apartment (he's not allowed in), call Mao Mao to break the good news. Mao Mao also break the news that Li Xing look for him once at the hotel front desk, took his precious bag (remember? the one he hang QQ call for the bag) and threaten to burn the bag if he's not telling Li Xiang, his relationship with Qiao Qiao. Qiao Qiao all happy, suddenly cough in her excitement, coughing out blood. Mao Mao ask if anything is wrong..
Qiao Qiao went to the hospital, the doctor break the news that she's in having terminal cancer and told her to break the news with her family. Qiao Qiao call Mao Mao and say that she just won the lottery, doctor say after 5yrs of relapsing the possibility is just like winning the lottery, so isn't she winning the lottery? Li Xing won the second category Spicy, serving sashimi with wasabi. He try to call Qiao Qiao to inform his winnings but unable to reach her. Qiao Qiao pack her things, visit her mom burial site, and say that she's tired already. Li Xing come to the apartment, before receiving a call from Qiao Qiao. They meet together at the bench they first meet during high school year.
Qiao Qiao say that she already though about it, so did Li Xiang. Li Xiang say that he decide that once after he finishes the competition they will start preparing the wedding. He kneel down, show her the ring now iced out. She smile, and then say "I pick this place to meet with you, because in the place where we started end it with you. I decide to break the contract." Li Xiang told her not to joke around like this and it's not funny at all, after he register everything he ask if she's telling the truth. Qiao Qiao nod her head, and he leave the turn back before saying hurtful words "This woman, can't tell good from bad. It serves you right for being lonely, It serves you right that your parents basically did not want you, no one will want you. Because you basically do not understand love and cherish people. Me living this really alone (in vain). CRAP!!"Qiao Qiao trying to hold back her tears.
The third category, bitter, while slicing Li Xing cut himself. The MC comments how can a pro-chef make this kind of mistake. Qiao Qiao back at the coffee shop (place the broke up), and ask the owner to teach her the recipe to cook coffee. The owner say it's very hard to study, and only after she study he will hand over the key. Li Xing went back to the apartment, see it's now clean up and all that is being left is a box of band-aid (Qiao Qiao always carry band-aid with her, old habit). Li Xing then visit the coffee shop only to see closed sign, but the owner invited him in. Offering him the menu for over the five years and told him to pick. Li Xing then question as to why 5yrs menu, and the owner told him that he ask if Qiao Qiao ever come, and say that Qiao Qiao always come every year on the day they break up and she is the one who change the menu title very year. Li Xing then connect the menu and it say "I'm on your side".
Li Xing then went to the exhibition unable to find Qiao Qiao, call her phone no one pick up. He then see one of the piece which is broken titled "ME". He fly to Shanghai visit Qiao Qiao workshop only to find it empty, then call Mao Mao asking where he is. Mao Mao lie and hang up. Li Xing back in Taiwan, and see Mao Mao at the exhibition packing up all the plates. Li Xing demand where's Qiao Qiao, he break the plates to threaten Mao Mao. But this time it did not work, Mao Mao break more pieces, and ask did he know why Qiao Qiao want to become utensils designer, because she want to match it with his cooking. And say that where is he all these 5yrs whenever Qiao Qiao need him, Qiao Qiao had been living in hell coz the thing she eat will equals to what she throw up.
Li Xing then come to the hospital, to see Qiao Qiao deep asleep with a scrapbook besides her. Containing all the polaroid she had capture including their kiss, the wedding dress, the restaurant he work. Li Xing then know that all these year Qiao Qiao always come to the place he work.
The next day, Mao Mao bring take away food for Qiao Qiao to enjoy. Qiao Qiao say it taste good, and ask which restaurant it is and Mao Mao say that it just open. We see that it's Li Xing who prepare it, after two meal Qiao Qiao request for meat meal. But after a bite, Qiao Qiao say she's full. Li Xing get a msg from Mao Mao that Qiao Qiao did not eat much, and this time round Qiao Qiao request for sweets. Li Xing prepare it, Qiao Qiao open the container and fell like she's going to puke and told Mao Mao that there's one food that she hope she can taste but it cannot be bought anywhere. Qiao Qiao then told Mao Mao to let her out from the hospital, since it's just wasting her time. Qiao Qiao then request one more thing is that for Mao Mao to look after Li Xing in the future, and take care of himself better after she's gone and thank's him for being the best blood unrelated brother and always there whenever she need him. From here onwards I cried like almost non-stop (1:23:00- 1:40:00)
Qiao Qiao then stand at the coffee shop, telling herself that she's going to walk the place that they have visited before. Li Xing is just behind her, at the mall Li Xing purposely stand before her and invite her over for meal. He then cook pumpkin congee, after two spoonful she puke everything out. Li Xing ask if his food is that bad, and Qiao Qiao say it is and becaurefull if he keep it up he can be eliminated from the competition. The phone ring (or is it done purposely?), and Qiao Qiao take out her medicine.
The last round of competition, sweet. Li Xing bring his food up even before told but he deliver it to Qiao Qiao who's on the audience sits. He told her that he have join many competition, won many prices and now he finally understand that all this represents nothing. He then say the soup he cook is not sweet but hope that she will love it, and then he feed her and say that it's her smile that is the sweetest thing on earth. And propose to her once again, this time she accept willingly and the crowd cheers for them.
okay for this part, I cried like a big baby, maybe my hormone is not right since I'm watching it like when the sun almost rise.
Li Xing visit the coffee shop, Qiao Qiao told him to sit at the usual place. Li Xing look around at it's all the photos and work she had. Mao Mao prepare a table full of food, she say it's a home cook any it's nothing compared to his.
QQ: Taste good?
LX: Good.
QQ: Want to cook for you forever. But looking at your expression once is enough right? In the future this little shop is handed over to you. Try to manage it. From this five years of observation you must be the best of the best chef. This is you the first time working, think because wit's your first then they won't let you sauté/hot food, they will let you do the cold dish so I order a menu *no idea* and from the knife skill I know it's you who made it. Then this one, the taste is very great but very greasy . And this is the pace where you work right now (LX quietly eat his food with sorrow), when I went to eat, you shouldn't have been chief, food appearance and taste is excellent but just did not match it up with my plates (LX crying), only if it match up with my plates then it's perfect. Sorry, over the 5yrs always quietly went to work place to eat, never greet you. Wei, no brain, are you listening to me?
LX: Why you don't tell me earlier?
QQ: Because I feel it's unfair, because I'm sick. So my need for you is more than what you need me.
LX: Just because ur sick, so my need for you is more than what you need me. What I have done for you is too little, too little.
QQ: So learn me act unhappy? Unhappy? Unhappy? Promise me, in the future you should smile frequently.
LX: In the future who should I smile for?
QQ: Me, I'm by your side. Let's sign an agreement, forget me start a new.
LX: I don't want 2x. I will be by your side..
They hug and cried non-stop
LX: Qiao Qiao I Love You.. I really Love you 2x.
Half year later, all the exhibition inventory is not at the coffee shop along with their wedding photo. Li Xing becomes the owner and serve two young fellows who's fighting, remembering it used to be like them. Li Xing walk out and see that it's snowing outside.
